I have enjoyed my university life for the past three years in Nottingham both academically and due to the numerous co-curricular activities. Studying in biomedical science was the decision I made in 2014 and looking back, I think I made the right choice. Nottingham provided me with lots of opportunities to integrate theoretical knowledge with hands on practice in laboratories. In my third year, I was assigned with a final year project that involved cell culture. That was a true challenge for me due to the stringent condition of the experiments. Even though I had to overcome failure after failure, weeks of insomnia and loss of direction interpreting the raw data, the outcome from the experiment really made all the effort I made throughout the year worth it.

Furthermore, the university of Nottingham organized the 30th intervarsity biochemistry seminar in 2019 and it was an honor for me to be the head of logistics for the seminar. The preparation for the event strengthened my personal skills, especially time management and communication.  I had to balance my time between my final year project, coursework, event preparation and of course, my private life. My roles as logistics also required me to interact with different department or personnel in the university to ensure the smoothness and success of the seminar. Now that I have graduated form biomedical science from Nottingham, I can say that my university life was really busy but really enriching and meaningful.

Never have I thought that I would be one of the graduates of biomedical science (Class of 2018) at Nottingham Malaysia. It has been an exciting and challenging journey in biomedical science. Studying biomedical science at Nottingham Malaysia has rendered me to explore in the biomedical science-research field and equipped me with professional research skills that allowed me to embark in my postgraduate studies. It was truly an amazing experience throughout the course even though it looked really tough at first and it is indeed tough. Endless practical classes and tons of practical laboratory reports distinguished us from students of other courses, yet I found it fun and useful as we got to expose and equip ourselves with laboratory research skills. When it came to exam, I found it very useful to attempt past year questions after revision which allowed me to familiarize myself with the exam settings. This also helped improve my understanding about the subject and I felt more confident to face those exam questions. Lastly, how can I forget about the lectures and practical classes delivered by our lecturers who always provide endless support to our studies.
I could not have been more blessed to been an undergraduate and currently a postgraduate at Nottingham Malaysia’s Biomedical Sciences. With the broad opportunities given and well-equipped research facilities support, I believe that it will be an amazing postgraduate journey for me in Nottingham Malaysia.

The biomedical science course wasn’t a walk in the park. It was tough and challenging, but also very insightful and rewarding. Throughout the years, I gradually learned about various topics from human physiology, pharmacology, microbiology, biochemistry and many more. The assignments, field trips and extra reading helped to provide me satiation for my curiosity. I enjoyed the most a module in my last semester of this course, cancer biology. I was always interested in exploring information about cancer as a complex disease, and this course gave me the foundation to further my interest. This is strong proof that this course propels its students to pursue their topics of interests. Lastly the final year research project gave me the irreplaceable experience of first hand research. It honed skills such as critical thinking , presentation, troubleshooting problem solving, laboratory skills and literature writing. This experience strongly influenced me to pursue a postgraduate degree. In conclusion, the Biomedical Sciences course is a solid choice for students intending to pursue a postgraduate degree. In conclusion, the biomedical science course is a solid choice for students intending to pursue a postgraduate degree. In conclusion, the biomedical science course is a solid choice for students intending to pursue health sciences related careers, with its decent course composition, modules and vital research projects.

Looking back to at the old me ready to move into a completely different country for University, a lot has changed. I feel like I have lived a lot, but there have also been lots of parts that have been challenging, confusing and not always gone to plan.  I think it’s true when people say that University is about ‘finding yourself’ as it really does teach you so many life lessons that are invaluable. The roller-coaster of events and experiences that University throws at you does, in a way, teach you about who you are (and lets you define yourself).
I am not going to lie, Biomedical Sciences is a tough course. Initially, I felt like they were speaking a completely different language to start with but with time you grow to understand. The main element that kept me going was passion. It is important to have passion in what to you because it got me through times where I really doubted myself while I was studying. And the work can get tedious and challenging, there is a lot of independent study that must be done. This taught me to be extremely self-disciplined, manage my time and involved spending lots of time with my head buried in books. The friends I met during my years at UNM, are simply the best. By encouraging and motivating each other, you simply push yourselves to strive for nothing but the best!
Getting older, and reflecting on my time at Nottingham, it has made me realise that the secrets to success is working hard, passion, dedication and selfcare! Each year at Nottingham had given me an invaluable life lesson, and although it was extremely sad to leave, I took away probably the best years of my life!
