Student helpers on University Open Day

During the University Open Day, our school has organised an interactive session called “A sneak preview into a pharmacist’s career”, where we have Dr Valerie, Dr Wai Hau Tung and Prof Nash presenting and demonstrating simple lab works in our Pharmacy resource room and C1A02 laboratory. There was also a showcase on students’ course works and videos in a seminar room.

It was such a busy day and we were so glad to have six student volunteers from MPharm Year 2 and Pharmaceutical Health Science Year 3 to help in running these activities.

Prof Graham Kendall has visited our showcase in B1A06.

Mun Yee (MPharm Y2) was discussing with other student helpers in the showcase room.

Denise (PHS Yr3) was interacting with parents.

Here are some testimonials from our student helpers:

  • For me, volunteering on open days has been a ritual since my foundation year. It’s that satisfaction and joy that you’d get when you help a family out, direct some lost visitors to the accommodations or even just talking to them about your student life that is so rewarding to be a student helper. You’d never know, but you might just help make a great decision in someone’s life. You’d never know, but you might have just made them feel special.” (by Wei Kit Wong, MPharm Yr2)
  • “An informative event for new student.” (by Masyitah Binti Zulkipli, PHS Yr3)
  • This is my first time working as a student helper, apologies for those part that is not done properly due to my inexperience. Generally, both the talk and the lab session were carried out smoothly, most student were able to participate in the quiz or the hands-on during both sessions. I found it interesting as some of the parents are very eager to participate in those events as well.” (by Song Heng Ng, MPharm Yr2)
  • “Great experience and learnt a lot. Thank you for the opportunity.(by Melissa Soo, MPharm Yr2)

Kit and Melissa, who acted as coordinator to help on logistic arrangement and event flow.

Overall, our activities were well-received by the visitors. The response in the morning session, in particular, was so overwhelming. This of course would not have been achieved without the support of our student helpers. Thank you all!
