Alumni Testimonial: Diyana Azmy (2017)

I graduated with BSc (Hons) Pharmaceutical and Health Sciences in 2017. I have always thought I would be in a lab doing research up until my 3-month summer internship with one of Malaysia’s largest listed integrated pharmaceutical group, Pharmaniaga Berhad. They placed me at one of their retail pharmacies during the internship and I was hooked. It was an eye-opening experience for me as I have never been exposed to the sales and distribution division of the pharmaceutical industry.

I decided to give sales a try and managed to land my first job at a small distributor company, Germax Sdn Bhd within 3 months after graduation. After a year in Germax, a better opportunity arose with greater responsibility and I became a Product Specialist in Hovid Pharmacy, a Hovid Berhad associate company. In Hovid Pharmacy, my role does not stop at selling Hovid’s products to private and government hospitals, but it is also my responsibility to understand my customers (Doctors, Pharmacists and Hospital’s Procurement Officers) concerns and to address their inquiries appropriately. I feel that my degree has helped me to not only thoroughly understand how available drugs in the market work but the course has also given me the confidence to aid my prescribers in suggesting the right available medications for their patients.
