Alumni Testimonial: Elizabeth Ng Yan Xin (2017)

I am currently a community pharmacist working for Lloyds Pharmacy in the UK.

The 2+2 MPharm Programme has equipped me well with the fundamental knowledge and skills to secure a pre-registration post and qualification as a pharmacist in the UK. The first three years of the MPharm course covered all the important chapters of the BNF and learning how to apply them in the final year. I particularly find the PLM module very useful which involves running a ‘pharmacy’ with other MPharm students from various backgrounds – part and parcel of the pharmacy profession. The over-the-counter scenarios during the simulation allowed me to practise my communication skills and boosted my confidence on how to handle different situations in real life.

Having equipped with the fundamental knowledge and skills had made it a bit easier to secure a pre-registration position in the UK. It was not an easy and straightforward process – the placement experiences definitely helped. Thus, I would urge all current and potential students to consider getting at least some placement experiences in the sectors that you are interested to work in the future.

I am grateful for the wonderful experience the MPharm programme and the university has provided as it acted as a stepping stone for what I have achieved today.

A shout out to all MPharm students who are working hard for good grades: Please don’t forget to enjoy your uni life and make the most out of it. Get involved in more activities if you can; travel, explore and don’t take things too hard!
