[Invitation] 3 Minute Thesis Competition
Fancy hearing an 80,000 word thesis explained in less than 3 minutes?
We are pleased to invite all staff and students to our annual Three Minute Thesis Competition (3MT®) scheduled for Tuesday 12 September 2017, 10.45am in the Great Hall. The members of the audience will have the chance to vote for the contestant who they think is the best in explaining his/her research work, deserving the 3MT® People’s Choice Award.
3MT contestants must condense their research into a brief, engaging presentation for a non-specialist audience, using a single static presentation slide. The aim is to help postgraduate research students develop their academic, presentation, and research communication skills. The contestants comprise of active PhD students who have successfully passed their first year confirmation review milestone (including thesis under submission).
The winner of the Malaysia Campus will progress to the video round to compete against the other Nottingham campuses. The overall winner will represent the entire University of Nottingham at the Universitas 21 (U21) Final, also via video, which will be judged by an international panel of industry and academic professionals. The winner of the entire 3MT competition will receive a bursary of US$2,500 to visit a U21 university of their choice to benefit their research or on-going career development.
In the meantime if you would like to gain a greater understanding of the competition, the video of last year’s winner, Lillian JA Olule, is embedded herewith. Lillian represented the University after winning the tri-campus round and subsequently won the Highly Commended Award at the U21 final. For four consecutive years the Malaysia Campus had been selected to represent the entire University of Nottingham to compete against other universities at the U21 final.
We look forward to seeing you at the event!
