Celebrating Hari Raya

We had our annual Hari Raya celebration on 27 June 2018.

Hari Raya, or the festival of Eid, marks the end of the fasting month of Ramadhan and the start of a new month on the Islamic calendar, Syawal. Hari Raya signifies a personal triumph, a victory of self-restraint and abstinence.

Our Hari Raya celebration was more of an Open House concept. Open House, known in Malaysia as Rumah Terbuka, is prevalent in the Malaysian culture especially during major festivals and celebrations.

The turnout was good and we would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who attended this special occasion. Through it, we hope to promote and foster spirit of unity and solidarity among the members of the postgraduate community on campus.

4-minute ad highlights patience, tolerance and togetherness

A truly Malaysian tradition, festive season calls for festive commercial advertisements. All the big brands vying for our tears, either through emotions or laughter.

We would like to share with you our favourite Hari Raya ad this year, “Rumah Epik Fantastik” (Epic Fantastic House), which focuses on common and relatable dilemmas faced by many Malaysians, especially during the festive season.

The ad, by Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) which is the only electric utility company in Peninsular Malaysia, shows a typical Malay household. It centres around a boy helping his grandmother with house chores for the big day and despite the hustle and bustle of a big celebration, everything turns out well as a result of tolerance and family togetherness.

We thought that it is a must-see so for those who have yet to watch it, do check it out by simply clicking on the image below!
