[3rd Call] 3 Minute Thesis Competition

This post is for PhD students who have passed their first year confirmation review – by Dr Jiin Woei Lee, Research Training Development Manager.


The University of Nottingham Malaysia will hold its 2018 Three Minute Thesis Competition (3MT®) on Wednesday 5 September 2018 at the Great Hall. If you are 1) a PhD student who have / would have passed your 1st year review by the time of the competition and 2) interested or contemplating about being a competitor as a new or returning participant, you must attend the briefing on Monday 23 July 2018 at 10am in H1B13. The briefing is important because it tells you about the basics, rules and other relevant details of the competition. Attending the briefing does not oblige you to become a confirmed competitor.

All competitors will receive certificates of participation. The prize winnings are as follows:

UNMC 2018 3MT® Winner: RM1,500 and a plaque

UNMC 2018 3MT® Runner Up: RM750 and a plaque

UNMC 2018 3MT® Second Runner Up: RM250 and a plaque

Submission of static PowerPoint (MUST be done in person and NOT via email) Tuesday 21 August 2018, 9am – 12noon BA61
3MT® full dress rehearsal Tuesday 4 September 2018, all day Great Hall
3MT® competition Wednesday 5 September 2018, all day (time of completion is subject to change depending on the number of participants) Great Hall
Competitors’ check-in for the 3MT® competition Wednesday 5 September 2018, 10am – 10.30am (late check-ins will be disqualified) Great Hall
