Present your research at our Virtual 3MT®

The Three Minute Thesis competition (3MT®) challenges research students to communicate the significance of their projects to a non-specialist audience in just three minutes. This year, the competition will take place online where you will present your research live to a panel of judges.

The competition is open to PhD students who have passed their first confirmation review.

Why enter?

  • Develop your academic, presentation and research communication skills.

  • Effectively explain your research in language appropriate to a non-specialist audience.

  • Represent UNM at the tri-campus round and possibly the International Vitae 3MT® competition.

How to participate?

1. Attend briefing session

    • Wednesday 3 June 2020, 10am – 11.30am via Microsoft Teams

    • Participants taking part must attend this pre-application briefing. Use this token to join the session: 5o24q21

2. Confirm your participation

    • Submit your final static PowerPoint slide to graduateschool@nottingham.edu.my by Friday 12 June 2020 no later than 12noon to confirm your participation in the competition.

3. Attend feedback sessions

    • Participants taking part must attend at least one feedback session. The purpose of the session is to provide advice and guidance on how to better structure and communicate your research work/communication to a non-expert audience.

Session #1: Friday 12 June 2020, 10am – 12noon
Session #2: Monday 15 June 2020, 10am – 12noon
Session #3: Wednesday 17 June 2020, 2pm – 4pm
Session #4: Friday 19 June 2020, 10am – 12noon
Session #5: Monday 22 June 2020, 10am – 12noon
Session #6: Tuesday 23 June 2020, 10am – 12noon

    • All sessions will be delivered via Microsoft Teams. Use this token to join the sessions: wnvw4vf

4. Attend rehearsal session

    • Tuesday 23 June 2020, 2pm – 3pm via Microsoft Teams

    • Participants taking part are strongly encouraged to attend the rehearsal session to familiarise themselves with the approach that will be taken for this online competition.

5. Present your research

    • Wednesday 24 June 2020, 10am via Microsoft Teams

    • Present your research live in front of the panel of judges.
