The Beginnings and the Ever Growing of UNMC’s Psychology Society

Since the birth of UNMC’s Psychology Society back in 2010, the bricks had been laid, and lots had happened since then. Here’s a glimpse into the minds of the three leaders of the society…

I could still remember when I first stepped into this university, the course – BSc (Hons) Psychology – had just started, and so we have to build everything from the ground, and that’s including Psychology Society, or better known as Psychsoc.

I am so happy and glad to see how things have turned out now, from a class of 14 students only during my undergrad first year, to the present, where there is approximately 100 students, and from the staff of 4 professors to the current moment of 10 professors in the department.

I am so proud to be the founder of Psychology Society, and also the first President of PsychSoc in UNMC! I also have the opportunity to watch how the society has developed, and improved over these few years. It is indeed a huge step forward, and I wish that I will have the chance to witness even more achievements from the society.

I have learned, and gained so many experiences when I was laying the foundation of the society. And one of the most important things I’ve picked up is that there is NO WAY you can do things ALONE in a SOCIETY.

So, let us come closer, work harder, and shine brighter than we ever did!!!

Being the president of PsychSoc was an unforgettable experience, and it was a privilege to be given the chance to lead the society. Having very few experiences of leading a team myself, and being the second president of a new society, it was nerve-wrecking! But as time went on, it turned out to be not too bad.

Soon, I became pretty dedicated to running the society, and I got really excited about implementing the many ideas that popped into my mind. But I had to calm myself down because unfortunately, time flies… and I didn’t have the chance to execute all of the ideas. Nevertheless, the committee that I had the pleasure to work with was amazing, and it made the experience so much more pleasurable.

I learned so much more than I could have ever imagined – from working with people, to organising events, and most importantly, I learned so much about myself.

Bottom line, if I could do it again, I wouldn’t think twice about it.

When I was in my first year in UNMC, I never once thought that I would someday become the President of Psychology Society.

I was encouraged by my friends to run for the post, and as the current President for Psychsoc, I am proud to say that I do not regret taking up this position at all. I have learned a lot throughout my term as the President, and I am extremely grateful to have such a talented and fun team working alongside with me. My experience in leading Psychsoc would not have been memorable if not for my ridiculously supportive committee whom I will always be eternally grateful for.

Being President is definitely not an easy task, but I am happy and proud of what we have achieved so far. It feels like Psychsoc has become a big part of my life, and I hope to continue witnessing Psychsoc’s legacy being carried on in the future.
