Alumni Career Forum

The Department of Biomedical Sciences (BMS) alongside Pharmaceutical and Health Sciences (PHS) worked together with the University Career Advisory Services (CAS) had organized a career forum on 7th February, 2018.  The forum had attracted more than 100 participations involving students and academics from BMS and PHS.  Four distinguished Alumni from the Faculty of Science were invited to share their most valuable career path experiences after graduation.  They were Dr Su Wen Lim (PhD in Bioscience), Ms Natalie Fei Theng Lim (BSc Hons in Pharm. Sci.), Ms Anusha Devi Nawoor and Ms Candice Yap (both BSc Hons in BMS).

Dr Lim is a scientist and entrepreneur.  She is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Oncode Scientific Sdn Bhd.  Oncode is the first local precision medicine laboratory in Malaysia, specializing in next generation sequencing and molecular diagnostics.  Natalie is holding the position as the Regional Medical Manager for an international pharmaceutical company in Malaysia, AJ Biologics Sdn Bhd.  Anusha is currently pursuing her PhD degree in BMS.  Candice is serving as an embryologist in a not-for-profit private hospital in Penang, the Hospital Lam Wah Ee.

The event was opened at 2pm and graced by the Dean of the Faculty of Science, Prof Andrew Morris.  He mentioned that it was a wonderful thing to see the UNMC graduates have succeeded in their respective careers and welcomed them back on campus to share their real life experiences to benefit our current studying students.  That was followed by the presentation given by the Head of CAS, Ms Alicia Ch’ng.  She had imparted informative advices on writing effective résumé/curricular vitae.

Later, all four alumni had spoken from their hearts about their journeys after graduation from UNMC.  Then, Prof Ting Kang Nee (Head of Department for BMS) and Assoc. Prof Dr Lim Kuan Hon (Programme Director for PHS) had convened a very interactive forum with the alumni and student participants.  Students were not shy and had actively posted questions.  It was a very joyful and enriching forum.

At the end of the forum, all participants came together to enjoy the afternoon tea.  That was the best time students grabbed the opportunity to have closer encounter with all the alumni.  The networking and personal exchanges took place then.  The whole event ended at around 5.30pm.
