Sustainability Research Network @ UNMC

Sustainability Research Network (SRN) was founded in May 2013 by five PhD students from five different schools/departments at the University of Nottingham, UK. These PhD students identified that sustainability research was going on in many different faculties across three campuses of the University, yet researchers who are interested in sustainability might only meet at chance encounters. Sustainability is an interdisciplinary topic and these students believed that researchers would benefit greatly from sharing knowledge, even in seemingly distant research areas. From small ideas, SRN was born.

SRN

SRN focusesĀ on bringing together postgraduate students and early-careers researchers working on, or with an interest in sustainability. It also focuses on promoting inter-disciplinary collaboration and discussion, facilitating knowledge exchange, and raising awareness of the many opportunities available within the University and beyond.

The network at the University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus (UNMC) has been developed by five students – Ee Phin Wong from the School of Geography, Jennie Unnikrishnan from the School of Biosciences, Muhammad Umair Illyas from the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Rajeev Kumar Taggar from the School of Biosciences, and Abba Lawan from the School of Computer Science.

With the vision “SRN Malaysia sees sustainability as a way of life that starts from within and aspires to transform UNMC into a sustainable model campus that aspires others by example”, SRN would like to reach out to like-minded students and academicians from a broad range of disciplines across all faculties.

A talk by members of SRN will be held during the Graduate School’s monthly informal Coffee-and-Cake session on Friday, 27 June 2014, 3.00pm @ BA64. The talk (over coffee and cake, of course!) is arranged for all postgraduate students to learn more about this dynamic network in promoting sustainability at UNMC.
