Boosting the Impact and Citations of Your Research Portfolio
Workshop on boosting research impact and citations
Publishing plays a pivotal role in our research career. In line with this, we organised a workshop on how to boost research impact and citations for members of academic staff on 18 September 2019. This workshop was delivered by Professor Graham Kendall.
The workshop focused on the importance of increasing the impact and citations of published papers, including how to identify what helps to attract more citations. It was designed to be interactive and promote experience sharing between the participants and convenor, therefore the participants were encouraged to share their views and think about how they can help themselves and others.
A range of topics and questions were covered and discussed in depth. For examples:
- The different ways of measuring citations and how they can be interrupted
- What it means when a paper gets a lot of (or few) citations?
- Strategies to improving the impact of papers
- Types of networking and its importance
- Open access vs traditional publishing
- Fake/predatory journals
We collated feedback from the participants and here are some of the best learning experiences that they have gained from the workshop:
“Understanding the need to keep publishing in order to keep up (improve) citations.”
“Learning some useful platforms/websites related to research.”
“Awareness of publication with h-index .”
We would like to take this opportunity to once again thank Professor Graham Kendall for his valuable sharing of insights and experiences. We hope that the information and guidance shared in the workshop is useful for the continuous development of researchers on campus, in particular early career researchers.
