UNM 2021 3MT®: Participation call extended

Communicating your research to people from all walks of life is a vital skill set to any research longevity! 

The Three Minute Thesis competition (3MT®) challenges research students to communicate the significance of their research work to a non-specialist audience in just three minutes. The competition is open to PhD students who have passed their first-year confirmation review.

Why enter?

    • Develop your academic, presentation and research communication skills

    • Effectively explain your research in language appropriate to a non-specialist audience

    • Represent UNM at the tri-campus round and possibly the international Universitas 21 (U21) 3MT® competition

    • Win cash prizes for conference or research purpose (Winner: RM3,000, 1st Runner up: RM2,000 and 2nd Runner up: RM1,000)

How to participate?

1. Confirm your participation

Submit your final static PowerPoint presentation to graduateschool@nottingham.edu.my by Friday 30 July (12noon) to confirm your participation in this year’s competition.

2. Attend feedback sessions

Participants are strongly encouraged to attend as many feedback sessions to better prepare themselves for the competition. The purpose of these sessions is to provide advice and guidance on how to better structure and communicate your research work to a non-expert audience.

Session 1: Monday 19 July, 10am – 12noon (lapsed)
Session 2: Thursday 22 July, 2pm – 4pm
Session 3: Monday 26 July, 10am – 12noon
Session 4: Wednesday 28 July, 2pm – 4pm
Session 5: Friday 30 July, 10am – 12noon
Session 6: Monday 2 August, 10am – 12noon
Session 7: Thursday 5 August, 2pm – 4pm

3. Attend rehearsal session

Wednesday 11 August, 2pm – 3pm, Microsoft Teams

Participants are strongly encouraged to attend the rehearsal session to familiarise themselves with the approaches that will be taken for the 2021 online competition.

4. Present your research

Thursday 12 August, 10am, Microsoft Teams

Present your research live in front of a panel of judges.
