Our Coffee & Cake session makes its comeback

A warm welcome back

After a two-year hiatus caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, our signature social event for postgraduate students, the Coffee & Cake session is back!

A catch up with our postgraduate students

The first session of this year was held on Friday 24 June. It was a small gathering in line with our self-regulated precautionary measures considering the country is currently in a transition phase towards Covid-19 endemicity. Nevertheless, it provided a direct, meaningful interaction among the postgraduate students across faculties with our members of staff.

In addition to welcoming the postgraduate students and introducing our members of staff, Dr Maniam Kaliannan, Associate Dean of Graduate School, gave several progress updates bringing together a number of developments following on our Graduate School structural change and administrative reform.

“We will continue to cultivate a supportive culture in which our postgraduate community can advance and thrive. We are here to support you and ensure you have a rewarding postgraduate experience,” said Dr Kaliannan.

Our postgraduate students with our Graduate School staff members, Ms Vimaleswari Danapal (far right), Manager of the Graduate School; Dr Revathy Sankaran (second from right), Research Training Development Assistant Manager.

“We know that some of our postgraduate students have been feeling somewhat a ‘void’ because we were not able to hold in-person gathering like we used to previously. So as you can see from the refreshments this time, we went all out to make this event memorable for you,” said Ms Vimaleswari Danapal, Manager of the Graduate School.

While social events as such have nothing to do with academic, they have something important to do with the overall student experience of the University. For our new and not-so-new postgraduate students who attended the session as first-timers, it was an opportunity to look around our Postgraduate Hub which is a dedicated space for postgraduate research students. It was also an opportunity to meet other senior postgraduate students whilst enjoying the free refreshments. As for the senior postgraduate students, it was a platform to temporarily get away from their work, relieve stress and catch-up with fellow postgraduate students.

Thank you to all those who came for this Coffee & Cake session and we hope you enjoyed it. We look forward to seeing you again in the next session!
