Events and activities
Postgraduate Induction
Friday 3 March 2023, 2.30pm – 4pm, H1B13
Our postgraduate induction features welcome talk by our Associate Dean of Graduate School and introductory presentations by our staff members on a range of support services and development opportunities for postgraduate students. This session will provide you with the essential information to help you make a successful start to your research degree.
Coffee & Cake Session (feat. PhD experience sharing)
Friday 17 March 2023, 3pm – 4pm, H1B13
Our Coffee & Cake session is a good avenue for postgraduates to meet and establish rapport with one another whilst enjoying some free refreshment. It is also a good platform to temporarily get away from your work/study and take a much-needed breather.
In this session, we will have Dr Tan Shu Han, Assistant Professor at Nottingham University Business School, to share her PhD experiences and some survival tips from hindsight. So come and join the rest of the postgraduate community and take a look behind the scenes of one of our academic’s PhD experiences!
Research Supervisor Series
The University is committed to developing and maintaining the highest standards in doctoral supervision. This series of seminars and talks is aimed at University staff involved in research supervision of masters and doctoral students. They cover topics that are essential for Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) requirements and also have been highlighted by supervisors as areas where they would like more advice and practice-sharing opportunities.
Introduction to doctoral programme

In this panel sharing session, we will have Professor Christopher Gibbins, Acting Vice-Provost for Research and Knowledge Exchange; and Dr Hazel Melanie Ramos, Vice-Provost for Teaching and Learning, to provide an introductory overview of research supervision, doctoral frameworks and regulations at University of Nottingham Malaysia.

Community
Placing the importance of postgraduate research
Postgraduate research students are an integral part of the University’s research capability, said Professor Christopher Gibbins, Acting Vice-Provost for Research and Knowledge Exchange, in his speech at our Graduate School’s Chinese New Year luncheon on 1 February 2023. He further gave recognition to postgraduate research students whom he said are key to helping the University deliver its commitments outlined in the Strategic Plan.
