Pre-Careers Fair Series 2016: CV & Cover Letter Critique Day Prepares Students for the Future
“By failing to prepare, you are failing to fail”
Benjamin Franklin
One of the checklist items during Careers Fair? Indeed, to bring multiple copies of good resume or curriculum vitae (CV)! For the University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus (UNMC) students to impress the potential employers during UNMC Careers Fair which was held on the 16th and 17th of March 2016, UNMC Careers Advisory Service (CAS) took an initiative to support the students making preparation before the event itself. As saying goes: Preparation; successful people do it.
“Pre-Careers Fair Series 2016: CV and Cover Letter Critique Day by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC)” was held on 1st of March 2016 from 11.30 a.m to 3.30 p.m at the Careers Resource Centre, UNMC. The 4 hour event was organised by CAS, where three representatives from PwC personally reviewed the CV of the students.
It was a good turnout and the students were enthusiastic to get their resume and cover letter to be reviewed by the PwC professionals: Kent Tan, Senior Executive of Human Resource; Syerra Manan, Senior Executive of Resourcing; and Ashley Tan, Recruiter Executive. The experts highlighted the do’s and don’ts in writing a CV and cover letter to every student they reviewed. The students gave such great feedback that they felt relieved to be guided by the specialists and gained new knowledge for future reference.
Kent Tan commented, “I was impressed that there were many Engineering students who came for the review and it would be great to see more Business students participate in this kind of event. Grab any opportunities that are in front of your eyes!”
Overall, it was a fruitful event where the students were hoping to have such this event in the future as they believed that there is always room for improvement before they go out to face the real working world.
Careers Advisory Service would like to thank everyone who involved in the execution of the event.
