Connecting Students with Top Companies at the UNM Careers and Internship Fair 2023
It’s a wrap for our UNM Careers and Internship Fair 2023 #UNMCIF2023!
Held over the course of 2 days between 15-16 March, the Trent building was buzzing with students chatting and inquiring with the variety of participating companies.
Officiated by our very own Provost, Prof. Sarah Metcalfe and accompanied by the Registrar, Patrick Joseph; Director of Student Experience, Mavis Tsang; and Head of Careers Advisory Service (CAS), Alicia Ch’ng, the event opened with a welcoming speech by the Provost, before the Platinum, Gold, and Silver appreciation tokens were handed to the event’s sponsors. It was a pleasure to see many UNM alumni who are now part of the participating companies.
Over 40 leading international corporations were in attendance and several non-profit organisations (NGOs) such as Cancer Research Malaysia, Teach for Malaysia, and even our own alumni NGO, Management and Ecology of Malaysian Elephants (MEME) were also part of the fair. The diverse set of companies spanning several key industries gave our students the opportunity to explore and make connections with potential employers.
Not only that, many activities were conducted to help students in their career journey such as Speed CV Review by employers and LinkedIn Photoshoot. The Speed CV Review was joined by OCBC and Public Bank on the first day, and Hilti and Petron for the second day. The students were encouraged to bring their resumes or CVs so that they could be reviewed and improved. These tips were shared so they can improve their portfolio and have a leg up in job hunting once they graduate. Some even submitted their newly updated resume for internship and job opportunities.
The LinkedIn Photoshoot was supported by the University’s very own Digital Arts Guild (DAG) which the attendees got the chance to snap a stand-out photo for their LinkedIn profiles. In addition to that, we were also there to provide career resources and guide students to fully maximise the fair at CAS booth. Aside from the Spin the Wheel game, we even hosted a Lucky Draw event where attendees who completed the Career Exploration Challenge stand a chance to win over RM1500 worth of prizes!
To hype up the fair even more, a slew of food trucks were decked out outside to feed our attendees and participating guests. We noticed that the free-flow popcorn and cotton candy cart was also buzzing with hungry snackers.
All and all, our first physical Career and Internship Fair since the pandemic was a success as seen by the overwhelming attendance of students and respectable companies. Through fruitful connections with top businesses, we hope that the fair inspires our students to follow their career paths. Thank you to everyone who attended and supported us throughout the execution of the fair. With that, see you next year at our #UNMCIF2024!
