Alumni Testimonial: Lim Sui Lun (2015)

It has been just over 8 months since I became the store-based pharmacist for a Boots Pharmacy in Cornwall. This experience was challenging but just as rewarding as I had the opportunity to manage and improve performance for one of the busiest stores in the region. I am looking forward to taking up managerial roles and possibly other positions in the pharmaceutical industry and healthcare business consultancy in the future.

As a Responsible Pharmacist practising in the UK, I am enabled to make clinical decisions about everyday situations in the pharmacy, from dispensing prescriptions to delivering services such as emergency supply of prescription medications, minor ailment
Patient Group Directions and emergency hormonal contraception. The other big plus point for me is being able to fully utilize my clinical knowledge when carrying out Medicine Use Review and New Medicine Service consultations and helping patients make the most out of their medications. Also, with Boots, I am provided with abundant resources for Continuous Professional Development (CPD), in terms of hard skills (clinical knowledge) and soft skills (e.g. coaching, leadership).

Thinking back to my university days, I would not have been as interested in pharmacy if it wasn’t for studying at the UoN. The school has provided me a solid foundation for developing knowledge as well as ample opportunities to be involved in professional activities and events. During my involvement with the British Pharmaceutical Student Association (BPSA) in the UK, I was able to grasp the ongoing issues surrounding pharmacy and appreciate the need to network and keep myself updated with the latest developments in the field. I would strongly recommend future students to consider this aspect of their pharmacy education.
Good luck!
