UNM’s FiS students celebrate Valentine’s Day with food distribution

Students from the Foundation in Science (FiS) programme at University of Nottingham Malaysia (UNM) organised a Valentine’s Day Drive with a difference.

On 15 February 2021, instead of sending flowers to loved ones for Valentine’s Day, five students, who were staying on campus during the lockdown, showed some love to the cleaners, landscape crew and security personnel by distributing lunch packages to them. The students were Navientharan Balasubramaniam, Inthra Kumar Perbagaran and Khor Weei Waai from Foundation in Science as well as Piranavan Sangar and Kajen Kumar, who are Year 2 Mechanical Engineering students.

Before the distribution, Navientharan Balasubramaniam thanked the general workers, who were working on campus, for their hard work in ensuring the cleanliness of the campus facilities and safety of everyone currently staying or working on campus.

The lunch packages consisted of food from the Chinese stall at the campus cafeteria together with a can drink and chocolates. Professor Andy Chan, Dean of the Faculty of Science and Engineering; and Jaya Kumar Karunagharan, Head of Foundation in Science, were also present at the event and helped out with the distribution process.

A total of 115 lunch packages were given out to the workers and most of the funds for these food packages were contributed by the staff and students in the Foundation of Science programme, however, there were also others from within the UNM community who donated for this cause.
