1st cohort of Biomedical Sciences graduates!

Staffs from the Department of Biomedical Sciences joined student’s families and friends in witnessing the convocation of the first cohort of Biomedical Sciences undergraduates and PhD graduate on Saturday, 25th July 2015 at the Putrajaya Convention Centre. A short prize giving ceremony was held before the convocation, where Professor Ian MacDonald, Head of the School of Life Sciences, University of Nottingham, UK handed out prizes to the top performing students in class.

Three prizes were awarded for Best Overall Achiever (Miss Su Lim Yang), Best Research Project (Miss Anusha Nawoor) and Best in Professional Skills (Miss Akila Raghavan). Professor Stephen Doughty, the Vice-Provost of Teaching at UNMC and Dr Yvonne Mbaki from the School of Life Sciences, UK were also present to congratulate the students and prize winners.

Following the ceremony, everyone proceeded to witness the students receive their degree during the convocation. A highlight of the ceremony was when Akila Raghavan, one of our Biomedical Science undergraduate received the Vice-Chancellor medal for her contributions to the Student Association during her time at UNMC. It was also a milestone to witness Dr Carolina Santiago (supervised by Kang Nee Ting) being conferred her doctorate as the department’s first successful PhD student since the establishment of Biomedical Sciences in Malaysia.
