UNMC Research Showcase 2015
The world wants to know how you are shaping the future!
The annual UNMC Research Showcase was held on Friday, 8th May 2015. The participants were first required to submit a press release outlining their research work and why it is important to the wider community. 18 postgraduate researchers were shortlisted but unfortunately, 5 withdrew from the competition due to unforeseen circumstances. Participants then had to design a poster representing their research work. During the showcase, they presented their poster and explained their research to the judges, their peers as well as the members of staff and student of the University. The showcase aimed to promote public engagement, open discussion and exchange of views and opinions with a larger audience, who were not necessarily acquainted with the research topic and field.
The Research Showcase this year featured a newly introduced voting system via an online voting platform. The online voting platform showcased the participants’ poster presentation through a short video. The video-recorded poster presentation aimed to cultivate the creativity in communicating and presenting their research work through a non-traditional educational medium.
The online voting platform received an overwhelming response from members of staff and student of the University. 839 online votes were received and 74 physical votes were casted during the showcase, which set a new record for us. The online voting opened on Thursday, 7th May 2015 at 10am and it closed on Friday, 8th May 2015 at 11am. The online voting was first introduced for the Images of Research Photography Competition held last year. In view of the outreach and effective engagement with a larger audience (not only limited to postgraduate community), the online voting proved to be a successful implementation.
