Postgraduate Refresher Programme 2016
The Graduate School will hold its annual welcoming event for new and returning postgraduate students on 26th to 29th September 2016. The Postgraduate Refresher Programme provides a series of varied and vibrant sessions to welcome all postgraduate students to The University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus (UNMC). The programme offers a formal introduction to the Graduate School and the three faculties at UNMC. It also offers a series of social and educational activites, aimed to provide opportunities and platforms to meet and socialise with fellow postgraduate students and staff members of the University.

Welcome Address
A brief introduction to the Graduate School i.e. support and services available for postgraduate students. Information about the upcoming events and activities will be shared, together with the launch of ‘Images of Postgraduate Experience Photo Competition 2016’.
Introduction to the Development Needs Analysis
The session aims to offer participants the opportunity to explore issues in development needs analysis for postgraduate students. Participants can gain understanding of what critical reflection is and how it can help them, and how critical reflection tools can be used to undertake development needs analysis.
Networking Lunch
Come over and network with your peers as well as the staff members of the University. It is on a first-come-first-serve basis.
How to Make the Best out of Postgraduate Studies?
This forum aims to address the different aspects of postgraduate studies and life that could be utilised by and be beneficial to the postgraduate students during and after their studies. Panelists include Prof Dominic Foo (Faculty of Engineering), Prof Nashiru Billa (Faculty of Science) and Prof Khong Kok Wei (Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences).

How to Write an Effective CV and Cover Letter
A good CV will show employers what you have to offer them and make them want to find out more about you and your experiences. A good cover letter points out to the employer your qualities as the job calls for, and makes a statement about yourself and your suitability for the job. This workshop will demonstrate how effective CV and cover letter can be done.
Introduction to the Postgraduate Student Network (PGSN)
An introduction to the function of the PGSN and support provided. The launch of ‘Buddy System’ will take place as well, a support provided by the PGSN to all new postgraduate students.
Graduate Attributes
Graduate Attributes are a wide-ranging set of qualities which you will develop during your time as a student, in preparation for employment, further study and etc. This session aims to address the graduate attributes from the academic, personal and transferable dimensions.

This presentation will include an introduction to Springer Nature Publishing Group, the Palgrave Macmillan imprint, details about Palgrave’s different programs and book models, as well as how to submit a book proposal.
Briefing by Palgrave Macmillan – Roundtable Discussion
This session is aimed at PhD students and early career researchers. It will focus on the process of preparing a manuscript for publication, on how to submit a proposal and work towards publication.
Faculty of Engineering Postgraduate Research Showcase: Poster Competition
The postgraduate research (PGR) students of the Faculty of Engineering UNMC will be showcasing their research works through this competition. It is a platform to build network and share experience with researchers across disciplines.
