Celebration of Lights

Deepavali, also know as Diwali, is celebrated by Hindus across the world to mark the triumph of good over evil and light over darkness. In Malaysia, the fascinating and colourful Festival of Lights needs no introduction as it is celebrated with equal fervour alongside Hari Raya Aidilfitri and Chinese New Year.

In conjunction with the festive occasion, we recently held our annual Deepavali celebration on 25 October 2017. The celebration was well attended by the postgraduate students from across all three faculties. They were treated with a variety of local Indian dishes and snacks.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who came for the festive celebration. Through it, we hope to promote and foster the spirit of unity and solidarity among members of the postgraduate community at UNMC.

In celebration of the Festival of Lights, there are some interesting yet touching web films released this Deepavali that capture and celebrate Malaysia’s multi-cultural diversity and values that make up the country’s unique social fabric.

Check out some of the web films to better understand the meaning and significance of Deepavali. These warm and relatable Malaysian stories espouse the essence and spirit of Deepavali with hope to spread the message of social cohesion and unity.

Happy Deepavali!
