Upcoming training course

We at the Graduate School continue to deliver the highest quality training and development for our early career researcher community during the C0VID-19 pandemic. We would like to give an update on upcoming training and support provision.

Examining a doctorate online

  • Wednesday 10 June 2020, 3pm – 4.30pm via Microsoft Teams

  • This webinar will provide an update to regulations on viva voce examination guidance for research degrees (e.g. PhD) during the C0VID-19 outbreak.

U21 Researcher Resilience Fund

This fund aims to support collaborative projects that develop researchers’ capability and capacity to work digitally or virtually, in order to adapt to life as a researcher, post COVID-19. Partnership of researchers from two or more U21 member universities, across at least two countries, can apply for this fund. All early career researchers at UNM are eligible for this fund. Guide to online supervision

Dr Swapna Kumar, Clinical Associate Professor from College of Education, University of Florida shares a Guide to Online Supervision co-authored with Vijay Kumar Mallan at the University of Otago and Stan Taylor at Durham University. It is free and can be downloaded by going to http://www.ukcge.ac.uk/  and scrolling down to latest resources.

Supervising Doctoral Studies (SDS) online course

With face-to-face classroom discussions prohibited during the C0VID-19 pandemic, the University of Nottingham offers a set of self-directed online modules for new supervisors and those who have more experience. The online course has interactive content such as videos, quizzes and a personal portfolio. Kindly use your university credentials to join the course. We understand that this unprecedented situation can be very stressful and difficult to some of you. Please rest assured that wellbeing support is available to you.

Engaging via Microsoft Teams

We are happy to act as the mediator for any senior researchers to engage with early career researchers on issues pertaining to research sustainability during the C0VID-19 outbreak.

Issues may include (but not limited toa chat about how you are currently coping with your research; how are you conducting your research when everything is shut down or unavailable; potential collaborations; a chat about future grant applications.

Festive greetings

Harvest festivals of Kaamatan & Gawai 

Kaamatan is celebrated on 30 & 31 May by the ethnic groups in the state of Sabah while Gawai is celebrated on 1 & 2 June by the Dayak people in the state of Sarawak.
