10 playful viva preparation activities
Professor Pat Thomson from the School of Education, UoN, writes about some entertaining ways to get into ‘the viva frame of mind and body’.
“My particular interest in the viva is the work you have to do to get yourself into the ‘expert’ frame of mind. You’ve had to write the thesis as if you were already doctored and the world’s greatest authority on your particular bit of research. Now, in the viva, you have to act and talk like one too. You have to be expert, even if you don’t feel like one, when you have the conversation with the examiners.”
Immersing into the world of art
The Louvre’s entire art collection is now accessible online for free
According to its website, the Louvre is still closed to all-person visitors in line with COVID-19 restrictions, so this online opportunity is really the only way to “visit” it at present!
See the piece you are interested in without squeezing through a crowd, or browse the entire collection by theme at the comfort of your home, or wander (albeit virtually) the Louvre’s halls using the interactive map feature. The site will continually be updated to reflect new pieces, so there will be more to see.
Ramadan wishes
Happy Iftar & Selamat berpuasa
Today is the start of Ramadan, an important month in the Muslim calendar where fasting, prayer and reflection take place. On this special occasion, we would like to wish all Muslims a blessed, safe and fulfilling Ramadan.
Tamil New Year greetings
Happy Puthandu
Tamil Puthandu (Tamil: தமிழ்ப்புத்தாண்டு), also known as Tamil New Year, is the first day of the year on the Tamil calendar. The festival date is set with the solar cycle of the Hindu calendar, as the first day of the Tamil month of Chithirai. It therefore falls on or about 14 April every year on the Gregorian calendar. The same day is observed by Hindus elsewhere as the traditional new year, but is known by other names such as Vishu in Kerala, and Vaisakhi in central and northern India.
