Exploring more on communication and presentation skills
In line with our recently launched 3MT®, we want to share with you some articles and posts on communication and presentation skills over the next few editions of our COVID-19: Graduate School updates. We hope these aid to your preparation for participation in the competition this year.
How to effectively get your message across
In this post, experts in science communication share tips on how to communicate complex information.
“Present the information in the form of a question. People don’t like having gaps in their knowledge, and that cognitive gap nudges them to keep listening to you to find the answer to the question you posed.” – Dr Sherry Nouraini, Founder/Director, SciComm Journal Club
“Imagine you’re explaining the concept to a 10-year-old, a bright 4th grader who is curious about the topic.” – Dr Mariya Vizireanu, Brand Manager, SciComm Journal Club
Before public speaking…
TED has a playlist of recommended talks to help you get pumped up before your public speaking. The playlist includes TED’s secret to great public speaking, How to to speak so that people want to listen, Your body language may shape who you are, etc.
Tips for presenting online
The Researcher Academy previously produced a video providing tips and advice for delivering online presentations. Although this video is targeted to support the upcoming online 3MT competition, it is also relevant to all other online presentations.
