Our training provision for research supervisors

The University is committed to developing and maintaining the highest standards in doctoral supervision. As part of the *Malaysia Qualifications Agency (MQA) requirements for all postgraduate research (PGR) supervisors to attend to attend supervisory training sessions, we at the Graduate School have put together some of the most relevant topics to support your research supervision.

*Important note: All PGR supervisors (main and co) are expected to attend at least two supervisory training offered by the Graduate School.

Our Research Supervisor Series

This series of seminars and talks is aimed at University staff involved in research supervision of masters and doctoral students. They cover topics that are essential for MQA requirements and also have been highlighted by supervisors as areas where they would like more advice and practice-sharing opportunities.

Attracting and appointing the ideal doctoral candidate is essential to a successful and rewarding partnership (between supervisor and doctoral candidate). There are several recruitment approaches but not all will work best for you as a doctoral supervisor.

This session aims to provide you with the information and guidance needed to get the right doctoral candidates. From attracting to selecting and appointing the doctoral candidates, hear how you can optimise your ability to attract high calibre doctoral applicants.

Learning outcomes

    • Distinguish the current approaches used to attract potential doctoral applicants

    • Identify problems with the existing approaches used and reflect on possible proactive measures

    • Practise approaches to engage and build relationship with potential doctoral applicants
