This newsletter provides quarterly updates on recent events and activities by the Graduate School.
Images of Research Photography Competition
Our annual photography competition was held in November 2017. This competition was designed for postgraduate students to take interesting and innovative photographs that best capture their postgraduate experience. The theme was Resilience in Research where postgraduate students can creatively express, demonstrate and share what does resilience mean to them.
Winners
The announcement of winners and prize-giving session was held on 6 December 2017. Chan Zi Yang, a PhD student from the School of Pharmacy, was announced the winner. Meanwhile, Nguyen Nhat Tan, a PhD student from the Nottingham University Business School (NUBS), was announced the recipient of the People’s Choice award.
So what’s it really like?
The winners share their experience participating and subsequently winning the photography competition. They also share some insights and tips for future participants.
Call for Applications: U21 PGR Travel Award 2017/2018
The application call for 2017/2018 Universitas 21 (U21) Travel Award is now open. This is a competitive award to support high quality doctoral students to develop their professional profile via a month long visit to any U21 universities, preferably a U21 university based in Australia. The successful applicant will be awarded £3,000.
Application deadline: 7 February 2018

Future Events
Coffee & Cake Session #1/2018
Our first Coffee and Cake session of this year is scheduled for 26 January 2018 at 3pm – 4pm in H1B14. We welcome all our postgraduate students to attend this casual yet interactive session.
Chinese New Year Celebration
Our annual Chinese New Year Celebration is scheduled for 7 February 2018 at 1pm – 2pm in H1B12. We welcome all our postgraduate students to join us in celebrating the joyous occasion.
Past Events
Christmas & Year End Celebration
Our annual Christmas and Year End Celebration was held on 6 December 2017. The celebration was very well attended and the postgraduate students seemed to appreciate the opportunity to have an early celebration of Christmas.
Coffee & Cake Session #6/2017
The sixth and final Coffee and Cake session of last year was held on 24 November 2017. It was a casual session where postgraduate students from across all three faculties met and established rapport with one another whilst enjoying coffee and cakes.
Teh Tarik Session
Our inaugural Teh Tarik Session Vol.1 was held on 15 November 2017. The session featured a talk on the product development journey for the Electronics and Telecommunications industry by Professor Amin Malek Mohammadi.
Celebration of Lights
Our annual Deepavali Celebration was held on 25 October 2017. The celebration was well attended by the postgraduate students and they were treated with a variety of local Indian dishes and snacks.
