RDP for the month of October 2013 – Boot Camp and Writing Courses

Graduate School Research Development Programme 2013/2014 started with the running of its five day boot camp last week (October 7^th– October 11^th, 2013). The programme that was conducted during the boot camp was:

• Nature of the PhD and the Supervision Process
• Planning Research and Time Management
• Working effectively in research
• Creative Thinking
• Getting into the Habit of Writing

The training programmes were well received and attendances reached maximum capacity.

For the remainder of the month of October 2013, the following training programmes, focusing on writing, were jointly conducted by Dr Tissa Chandesa, Professor Graham Kendall and Professor Dominic Foo. The programmes were as follows:

• Getting going on your Thesis – Monday, 21^st October 2013 at BA 64 from 10am to 1pm, conducted by Dr Tissa Chandesa
• Academic Writing and Getting Published – Wednesday, 23^rd October 2013 at BA05 from 2-5pm, conducted by Professor Graham Kendall
• Understanding how to use EndNote – Wednesday, 30^th October 2013 at GD14 (Library Computer Room 3) from 2-4pm, conducted by IS
• Anatomy of a Good Journal Paper – Friday, 1^st November 2013 at BA 64 from 10am-1pm, conducted by Professor Dominic Foo

In November, the programmes are as follows:

• Funding Workshop – Monday, 11^th November 2013 at BA 64 from 10am to 1pm
• Introduction to the skills of teamwork – Wednesday, 13^th November 2013 at BA 64 from 10am-1pm
• Writing research proposal – Thursday, 14^th November 2013 at BA 64 from 10am-1pm
• Presentation skills – Thursday, 21^st November 2013 at BA 64 from 10am-3pm
• Further presentation skills – Monday,  25^th November 2013 at BA 64 from 10am-1pm
• Preparing for your Viva – Wednesday, 27^th November 2013 at BA 64 from 10am-12:30pm
• Preparing for your Annual Review – Wednesday, 27^th November 2013 at BA 05 from 2-5pm
