Ref. UNM/GS/Covid-19/68/03/12/21
As the National Recovery Plan (NRP) Phase 4 continues, we are providing this update to our postgraduate community outlining latest news and information from us at the Graduate School.
The University is regularly updating advice and general FAQs on Covid-19 on its web page.
Update and guidance
In this last edition of our Covid-19: Graduate School updates for this year, we would like to share an update bringing together a number of recent communications of interest to our postgraduate community.
Our communication
We will continue providing succinct news, information and updates on our training and development opportunities through our monthly e-bulletin and quarterly e-newsletter (Nucleus). We will also continue providing updates on what we are doing to support our postgraduate community amidst the ongoing pandemic through our Covid-19: Graduate School updates. However, its frequency will be revised to monthly basis, starting next year.
We warmly invite you to get in touch with us if you have any unaddressed concerns or if there are gaps in our advocacy or communication.
Contact us at graduateschool@nottingham.edu.my.
Additional University holidays
As previously announced by our Interim Provost and CEO, Professor Sarah Metcalfe, there will be additional University holidays on 24 & 31 December 2021.
The 7 types of rest that every person needs
Cognitively, we all know we need rest for our wellbeing. But as this article reveals, it is a bit more nuanced than that. We hope the upcoming holidays will provide a little respite and some time to unwind, reflect and recharge batteries ahead of the new year.
“We go through life thinking we’ve rested because we have gotten enough sleep – but in reality we are missing out on the other types of rest we desperately need.”
UoN Research Link
A new online tool has been introduced to help identify potential research collaborators and further building teams for strategic transdisciplinary funding bids and project proposals. It allows you to search for colleagues from across our UK campuses according to research interests and expertise. Search for any topic of interest and it will return a list of researchers working in related areas, along with their interests.
Training and development
As NRP Phase 4 continues, we wish to update you on our continuing provision to keep your research training and development going.

Revising?
In these blog posts by Professor Pat Thomson from the School of Education, UoN UK, you can explore some useful advice and guidance about revising.
Start strategically
“Whether you are revising your own writing or responding to reviewer feedback, you need to work out what to do. But you also need to work out where to start.”
Try a 4 step approach
“Many people approach revising as if it is a single shot process… But revising and refining a text are not one activity, they are several. ”
Festive greetings
Merry Christmas & Happy New Year
Warmest wishes from us at the Graduate School to you as we reflect a year of challenges and express hope for the new year. Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, in advance!
