RTAD: March’s Highlights
Here are the highlights of March 2014.
Universitas 21 (U21) – Global Citizenship Workshop
U21 is a leading global network of research universities for the 21st century. The first Global Citizenship workshop was held at the University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus (UNMC) from 13 – 14 March 2014. Some of our Research Training and Academic Development (RTAD) members were privileged to be able to attend the workshop.
The workshop explored our current understanding and approach towards promoting Global Citizenship within the student bodies. It specifically addressed the question on how a global university network can develop activities that support partner organisations in enhancing student engagement with an understanding of Global Citizenship.
The workshop combined keynote presentations, round-table discussions and breakout sessions with a series of expert panel discussions on the topic of Global Citizenship. Rapporteurs from each panel came together in a subsequent plenary session to report on and discuss the issues and questions raised.
Coffee-and-Cake Session
A Coffee-and-Cake session was held on Friday 28 March 2014. The session included a brief presentation and an open discussion on “Global Citizenship” by Ms Deepa Kumari (RTAD) and Ms Yeong Woon Chin (Knowledge without Borders Network) – over coffee and cake, of course!
Global Citizenship means many things to many people. The session also covered a discussion on what competencies do we really need to complement our degree and become an active global citizen. It got us to rethink about mobility, community, employability and the definition of Global Citizenship.
