Keynote Address on Recent Trends in Food Processing Technologies by Professor Asgar
Professor Asgar Ali from the School of Biosciences at the University of Nottingham Malaysia was recently invited by the National Institute of Food Technology Entrepreneurship and Management (NIFTEM) Haryana in India to be a guest speaker for an Online Faculty Development Programme (FDP) for University teachers, professors, PhD and other research scholars. This FDP was organised under the banner of NIFTEM, Ministry of Food Processing Industries, and All India Council of Technical Education. The title of the programme was “Emerging Technologies in Postharvest Management and Value Addition of Horticultural Commodities” was organised in an online mode from 2 to 6 November 2020. Over 200 participants from across India registered for the event.
Faculty Development Programme
This Faculty Development Program (FDP) was designed to train and develop professionals in the area of horticulture, postharvest management, and technology, processing, process engineers and technologists, entrepreneurship, innovation, and incubation in fruits and vegetable processing. Through this, they can act as resource persons in guiding and motivating students and other faculty members to take up entrepreneurial careers as well generate technologies in reducing postharvest losses and aiding value to fruits and vegetables by processing and packaging. The outcome of the FDP is likely to provide essential tools and techniques through diverse hands-on-training modules. With such an aptitude, the knowledge of emerging cutting-edge technologies in the field of postharvest management and processing of fruits and vegetables as a tool of entrepreneurship would enhance the practising skills of the Faculty Members/Teachers, who, in turn, can apply them for linking classroom teaching with research and self-generated new knowledge.
Alongside Professor Asgar, a number of eminent speakers from all over the world were also invited to be part of the webinar including Professor Jeffrey Brecht from the University of Florida, Dr Jean Claude Pech from France, Professor Mustafa Erkan from Akdeniz University, Turkey, Dr Victor Rodov from ARO, Israel, Professor Giancarlo Colleli from the University of Foggia, Italy, Professor Daniel Valero from Universidad Miguel Hernández de Elche, Dr Peter Toivonen from Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, Professor Robert E Paull from the University of Hawaii, Professor Paul Cronje from Stellenbosch University, South Africa, Dr Lisa G Neven from USDA Washington, USA, Dr Noureddine Benkeblia from the University of the West Indies, Dr Alessandro Turatti, President and CEO of Turatti North America and Dr George Manganaris from Cyprus University of Technology.
