A warm welcome to Nicholas Ching, Director of Campus Services

Nottingham University is well regarded as a top notch UK university which easily helped me decide to join this great institution instead of another opening which I was head-hunted for. Being located in a “so called remote area” is the other “no brainer” as it will allow me to enjoy nature and being in an environment away from the hustle bustle of city campuses.

My love for nature and the outdoors probably started since I joined the scout movement in Form 1 back in the 1970s. I continued as a scout even after I left secondary school till my undergraduate days at University Malaya. I still remember the fun I had going camping, hiking and attending campfires organised by other boy scout and girl guide troops.

Prior to joining UNMC, I was with Curtin University in Sarawak. While there, I took the opportunity to visit several National Parks, namely: Mulu, Niah and Loagan Bunut. I have been up Broga Hill previously and would love to attempt it once again. Besides the outdoors, I am artistically inclined and enjoy sketching, painting and carving when I have the time.

I have not been here long enough to comment much about the staff and students here. Thus far, the staff I have met are very helpful and friendly. I am looking forward to participating in some of the student activities and events. I am now focused on getting to know the campus better and carrying out the role and responsibilities under my purview.
