Getting inspired by field trip to Wipro Unza
Wondering how to make students get inspired? Well, let’s go for field trip! On March 4, 2016, about 28 The University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus (UNMC) students embarked on a field trip to Wipro Unza Malaysia which located in Subang Jaya. This trip was successfully organised by Careers Advisory Service (CAS) in collaboration with Biosciences Students in Nottingham (BSN Society).
Participants left the campus at 12.45p.m and arrived at 1.30p.m. Upon arrival, they received warm welcoming short speech by the Chief Operating Officer, Mr. Sriram Krishnamurthy and introduced them to the team.
The students were captivated by the facilities in Wipro Unza. They had the opportunity to visit Wipro Skin Research and Innovation Centre where they managed to look around into numerous labs such as Product Innovation Lab, Tissue Culture and Biology Lab, Delivery System Design and Technology Lab, Analytical Chemistry Lab and, Clinical and Dermatological Lab. As they were guided by respective lab manager and Ms Toh, Senior General Manager of Research and Development (R&D), they gained knowledge on the cutting edge technology in an industrial laboratory.
Guided by Ms. Amanda, the Production Manager, they also had an exposure on production plant as they were brought to visit the dispatch area, large scale manufacturing for lotion, talcum powder and facial products; and packaging area.
Mohammad Ezmir Zarir, the President of Biomedical Science Society commented, “It was a great and informative trip. Besides that, the visit to Wipro Unza inculcates self-awareness on safe working practices in the laboratory.”
“I’m really interested in R&D which makes me found everything in the laboratories was fascinating. It’s interesting to relate the theoretical material that we’ve learned to the real life situations which just in front of our eyes,” Muhammad Shahrizal Shaharudin, the final year student of Biomedical Science added.
The students also expressed their interest in Management Trainee Program offered by Wipro Unza. This program which allows them to rotate into several departments grabbed their attention as they felt that it will be a good exposure to gain experience and explore their strength at once.
The visit ended with networking session hosted by Ms. Jessica, the General Manager of Human Resource. The students felt grateful for this golden opportunity as it gave some beneficial insights on their career path in future.
