STEM Carnival 2023
Who said STEM can’t be fun? The University of Nottingham hosted a STEM Carnival to showcase our commitment to empowering the next generation of innovators! Over the course of 3 days, up to 700 high school students from 13 different schools convened at our Semenyih campus to experience an interactive and fun introduction to the field of science.
With the help of staff and student volunteers of the Faculty of Science and Engineering, the school students were able to participate in booth activities and challenges to earn stamps to redeem prizes. The activities that were offered were supervised by the university’s students and showcased the uniqueness of each course through magnet mazes, psychological games, and even a card game created in collaboration with the Management & Ecology of Malaysian Elephants (MEME).
Additionally, the participants also engaged in activities such as assembling robots, 3D printing, building bridges, and programming with the help of university student helpers who had been supervising the booths. The participants were invited to listen to talks conducted by industry experts and converse with the university’s students and professors to understand their topic of interest better.
Furthermore, the participants got to experience a computer science exhibition, located in the undergraduate room, which displayed a handful of programmed activities created by the university students and included two escape rooms.
Through these activities, we’re able to provide a more interactive approach towards science and technology which, initially, can be intimidating to such young and bright minds! All this would not have been possible without the support of our partners from @Kementerian Sains, @Teknologi dan Inovasi, and @Lembaga Teknologi Malaysia. Together, we will continue to nurture young minds through STEM!
