UNMC Engineering Careers Day 2015 Exposes Career Options

“There’s nothing I believe in more strongly than getting young people interested in science and engineering, for a better tomorrow, for all mankind.” – Bill Nye

Engineering Careers Day was held on the 11th of November 2015 which took place at the Great Hall. Organised by Careers Advisory Service (CAS), this event was an outstanding opportunity for engineering students to meet with the employer representatives and learn about internship and career employment opportunities.

Pic 2The event comprised of two sections; booth exhibition and speed networking session. There were about six companies that participated in the booth exhibition such as Accenture, AECOM, Motorola Solutions, MRCB, and Sunway. As for the speed networking session, the companies involved were Accenture, Shell, MRCB, Sunway, AECOM, and Motorola Solutions.

The representative from Shell Petroleum Co. Ltd, Huan Chik Yuan, who is the NPD Subsea Engineer of Project and Technology Department, were delighted about the concept of speed networking session, which every student who registered had the chance to choose three of their most preferred companies, and had discussions with the representatives of the companies.

“As an alumnus of UNMC, I am glad that now UNMC engineering students have a medium to ask directly to the companies about internships, job opportunities or the company itself.”

“Besides that, I feel that it is crucial for the company to send the right representative who has hands-on experience on the job itself and knows everything about what’s happening in the company so that students can get more detailed information that they cannot find on a website or other places,” Chik Yuan said.

Omar, the Year 4 Mechanical Engineering student, expressed his excitement on the booth exhibition during the careers’ day.

“I was being exposed to numerous companies that I did not even know before by attending this careers’ day. Through this event, I got the chance to pic 3explore more about job opportunities and also at the same time getting to know what the companies were all about,”

He also added, “It is a careers’ day, which only focuses on engineering that makes it different from other career fairs. It’s such a golden opportunity for engineering students to find their career path.”

Careers Advisory Service would like to thank those who involved in the execution of the event.
