New module: Research Methodology

New module coming soon in October 2022

As part of the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) requirements for higher education institutions to have a structured and centralised Research Methodology course for all postgraduate research (PGR) students – PhD, MRes and MPhil, we will conduct a Research Methodology module composing of several workshops for all our PGR students at UNM.

This module is designed to meet the generic requirements of research with the aim to support postgraduate students in developing your research project and assist you in defining your mode of inquiry. The module will give you a general introduction to postgraduate research along with its methodologies, challenges and organisation. You will be introduced to a range of research topics, be equipped to plan and organise your research as well as to communicate your findings.

This is a compulsory module for all PGR students who registered from 2021 onwards. Others are encouraged to attend.

Aim

The aim of the module is to provide you as a PGR student with the basic understanding on research methodology.

Learning outcomes

At the end of the module, you should be able to:

    • Understand the what, why and how of PGR research methodology

    • Understand the overall framework of managing research

    • Understand the ethics requirements in conducting a research

    • Identify the overall process of designing a research study from its inception to its report

Note 

This module contains no assessment. The module offerings are twice per year in May and October.

You are expected to attend all the module workshops and it is highly recommended to do so in your 1st year.

You can be exempted if you had previously completed the following courses:

    1. Research Ethics and Integrity; and

    2. Nature of the PhD and the Supervision Process
