Recipients announced: UNM PhD Scholarship

At the Graduate School, we are committed to empowering your postgraduate journey and research ambition. Our scholarship enables us to contribute towards a broad and diverse research environment that fosters both mature and emergent disciplinary and inter-disciplinary research.

We are pleased to announce that our UNM PhD Scholarship has been awarded to the following well-deserving students. The inaugural scholarship offers full tuition fee waiver for the three years of our PhD programme.

    • Chung Jia Yiing, Division of Organisational & Applied Psychology

The applications went through a rigorous review and assessment process by our Research Scholarship Management Panel, together with a designated multi-disciplinary panel consisted of academics from engineering, science and social sciences.

Call for abstracts: UNM Postgraduate & Early Career Researcher Conference

Our inaugural UNM Postgraduate and Early Career Researcher Conference is scheduled for 29 & 30 November 2022. The aim of this conference is to bring together research scholars from multiple disciplines to share their research work towards nurturing impactful research for the future.

Among the activities in this conference are keynote speeches, PhD colloquiums, postgraduate research and journal publication workshops. Best paper presenters will be given cash rewards and certificates while accepted extended abstracts will be published as conference proceeding with ISBN number.

Reassignment of space: Learning Hub

The Learning Hub (H1B12a) in our Postgraduate Hub has been temporarily redesignated as an office for our Postgraduate Research (PGR) Operations team.

Nevertheless, the Social Space (H1B14) remains available for our PhD students. It has plenty of comfy sofas with coffee tables which makes it a relaxing spot to take a breather from your studies or hang out with your peers. It is also equipped with 3 group study spaces for small group meeting which can also be used as individual study spaces.

3MT® Live!

All staff and students are welcome to join us at our 3MT® Live! to support our postgraduate research students and hear about how their research could change the world!

Our postgraduate research students from a range of disciplines will present their research in an exciting and engaging way, in just three minutes! They will be competing for the top prize and a spot in our tri-campus 3MT® competition, and potentially represent the University at the Universitas 21 (U21) Final.

What is it all about?

Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) is a research communication competition developed by the University of Queensland in 2008, in which doctoral researchers have just three minutes to deliver an engaging presentation on their thesis topic, its originality and its significance. The competition is now held at about 600 universities in 65 countries and counting.

Research Supervisor Series

The University is committed to developing and maintaining the highest standards in doctoral supervision. This series of seminars and talks is aimed at University staff involved in research supervision of masters and doctoral students. They cover topics that are essential for Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) requirements* and also have been highlighted by supervisors as areas where they would like more advice and practice-sharing opportunities.

*All postgraduate research (PGR) supervisors (main and co) are expected to attend at least two supervisory training offered by the Graduate School.

  • 3MT® participants are strongly encouraged to attend as many feedback sessions to better prepare yourself for the competition. The purpose of these sessions is to provide advice and guidance on how to better structure and communicate your research work/communication to a non-expert audience.

Socialising and networking through our Coffee & Cake session

After a two-year hiatus caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, our signature social event for postgraduate students is back. The first session was held on Friday 24 June 2022. It provided a direct, meaningful interaction among the postgraduate students across faculties with our members of staff.
