Academic awarded for ASEAN-US Science Prize for Women

The University of Nottingham Malaysia’s (UNMC) academic Professor Chong Mei Fong was nominated and awarded an honourable mention and won USD5000 for the ASEAN-US Science Prize for Women 2017. Professor Chong from the Faculty of Engineering nomination was the result of her research which aimed to provide a safer workplace while solving the pollution problems in ASEAN countries with rapid urbanisation which involved in the research on a bioreactor.

The awards are presented to key female researchers in the area of Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Medicine and the winner will be announced at the 2017 ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on 19 October 2017 in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar.

“I am really honoured to be nominated for this prestigious award and will continue with my uncompromising contribution to ASEAN through my research,” said Professor Chong.

Professor Chong was also previously the Chairperson for Gender Equality in Nottingham (GEN).
