Nottingham MyResearch, Malaysia Development and Investment Authority (MIDA) and Malaysia Australia Business Council (MABC) recently held a joint networking reception at the MIDA headquarters. Supported by SME International Trade Association of Malaysia, Malaysia Canada Business Council and Malaysian Dutch Business Council, the gathering had more than 150 attendees from 40 international and local companies, business chambers and government agencies. The event also featured presentations by Ms Noor Aieda Ahmad, Director of MIDA’s R&D and Business Services Division; Ms Biruntha L. Mooruthi, Vice President – Commercialisation Specialist of PlaTCOM Ventures; and Professor Christine Ennew, Provost and CEO of UNMC and Director of Nottingham MyResearch.

The Chief Executive Officer of MIDA, Dato’ Azman Mahmud said, “R&D and innovation is important to Malaysia’s well-being and future sustainability. In the face of the tremendously changing industrial landscape, undertaking as well as intensifying R&D activities is without a doubt, one of the key components that will enable companies to remain competitive and sustainable”.

In conjunction with the event and to showcase successful collaborations between academia and industry, Nottingham MyResearch signed two Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with Chulia Facilities Management and Gaharu Technologies. The former will focus on the development of medical devices while the latter involves research on tea, both of which will be conducted at the The University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus (UNMC).

Professor Christine Ennew added that, “Nottingham MyResearch is a tax efficient way to invest in R&D, allowing industry partners to access University expertise, not just from our Malaysia campus but also from our other campuses in the UK and Ningbo, China. We have expertise in aerospace, automotive and rail, energy, pharmaceutical research, food and drinks, and tropical and halal related research. We welcome companies to talk to our representatives and discuss on your research needs,”

In his closing speech, Mr. Leigh Howard, the Chairman of MABC thanked the participants and partners for their support, and looked forward to more collaboration with Nottingham MyResearch in time to come.
