Proposing a solid business plan that illustrates ingenuity, innovation and, most importantly, favourable profit margins that attract investors is never a simple task, and yet every year many hopefuls attempt that very challenge. The students from the University of Nottingham Malaysia (UNMC) are by no means an exception to that concept as they tested their ideas and innovative business ideas at the Nottingham Provost Business Challenge 2017. The challenge was organized by the Nottingham University Business School (NUBS) and sponsored by Ken-Rich; an established manufacturer of over 20 years that is in the industry of personal care, household detergents, car and industrial cleaning products.

The task given to the teams this year included the requirement to create and innovate a range of organic toiletry products suitable either for infants or adults which resulted in a three-hour long event participated by five teams. Each team comprising students from at least two different faculties and different schools presenting and promoting their various organic soaps/shampoos/lotions to the intrigued judges.

The aim of the competition was to offer University of Nottingham Malaysia students an opportunity to gain professional experience, and to participate in the process of real-life business projects. It was open to all students of the University, both undergraduate and postgraduate students. Apart from the ingenuity and effort showed by all five teams during their 20-minute presentations, the teams were also able to develop and showcase the actual products to both judges and audience followed by challenging questions directed at them by the judges on their business proposals.
