UNM student wins Research Prize in Polymer and Materials Science

University of Nottingham Malaysia’s (UNM) Apurav Krishna Koyande has been selected by the Council of the Institut Kimia Malaysia (IKM) to receive the IKM Research Prize in Polymer and Materials Science 2021.

Apurav is the first student from UNM to be given this award, which carries a cash prize of RM1,000. The award and certificate will be presented to him at this year’s Malam Kimia 2020 & 2021, which will take place on 3 December 2021 in Kuala Lumpur.

Apurav who is a Chemical and Environmental Engineering PhD student research focusses primarily on the upstream and downstream processing of algae. His expertise lies in extracting protein, carbohydrates and lipid from microalgae for feed and biofuel production, respectively.

Institut Kimia Malaysia or the Malaysian Institute of Chemistry was inaugurated on 8 April 1967 and is a statutory professional organisation incorporated under the Chemists Act 1975.

IKM has been organising Malam Kimia to recognise the hard work and achievements of those in the field of Chemistry. The awards presented during the event are the IKM Gold Medals, Graduate Chemistry Medals, Merit Awards and Laboratory Excellence Awards.
