UoNARI organises webinar to discuss Global Business Services

The University of Nottingham Asia Research Institute hosted a webinar entitled “Post COVID: Position of Malaysia’s GBS Industry in Asia and Beyond”, which took place on Microsoft Teams.

The Global Business Services industry is estimated to be worth more than USD 200 billion globally and more than USD 6 billion in Malaysia and it has grown by more than 10 percent per year in Malaysia for the past five years. Currently, the industry employs more than 250,000 people in Malaysia.

During the webinar, several points were discussed including what the Global Business Services (GBS) is, the roles of MDEC, PIKOM, the industry and academia in the Malaysian GBS ecosystem, why GBS in Malaysia and its journey of moving up the value chain, the growth and resilient position of this industry pre and post COVID, employment expectation and opportunities for future graduates.

A total of five speakers were invited to be on the discussion panel for this webinar. They were Justin J. Anthony, Executive Director of PIKOM; Nik Izuddin, Head of Investor Management at MDEC; Dato’ Munirah Looi, Founder & CEO of Brandt International; Michael Warren, CEO of Consulting Board Asia; and Sugeeta Bhanoo, Head of Capabilities, APAC at BAE Systems Applied Intelligence.

The discussion was chaired by Dr Mandy Sim and moderated by Dr Vengadeshvaran Sarma, both from the University of Nottingham Malaysia.
