Commonwealth Summer School 2014 – Group Poster Preparation & Presentation
One of the highlights of the 4th Commonwealth Summer School was the group poster preparation and presentation by the delegates.
The delegates were grouped into a total of eight groups and each group was tasked to create an academic poster to correspond with the theme of their respective group.
A workshop entitled “Presentation Skills and Poster Design” was held on Tuesday, 19th August 2014. The workshop was delivered by Dr Tissa Chandesa and Dr Jiin Woei Lee, Research Training Development Managers, University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus. It aimed to develop effective communication skills, with particular reference to an academic context. The workshop was also designed to help the delegates to prepare an effective poster.
A poster preparation session and a group poster workshop clinic were held on Thursday, 21st August 2014 and all groups were required to submit their posters by 5.00pm that day in order to get them printed for poster presentation session on Saturday, 23rd August 2014.
The poster presentation took place at Kuala Lumpur Teaching Centre, located in Chulan Tower on Jalan Conlay within Kuala Lumpur city centre on Saturday, 23rd August 2014.

Group 3 [Demographic & Migration] with their poster entitled “From Potential to Productivity: Comparing Nigeria & India’s Millennium Development Goal Statuses”.

Group 4 [Supply Chain] with their poster entitled “Farm to Fork – Adding Value to the Supply Chain”.

Group 5 [Food & Nutrition] with their poster entitled “FOOD or FAD? An Exploration of School Feeding Schemes in Five Developing Countries”.

Group 6 [Sustainability] with their poster entitled “Sustainable Integrated Seed Sector Development”.

Group 7 [Farm Management] with their poster entitled “Fertilisers in Rice Production: A Hidden Problem in Global Food Security”.

Group 8 [Food Policy] with their poster entitled “Food for Children in Pakistan… saving the future of a nation”.
All groups were judged on the quality of their poster and presentation.
The Winner for the Best Poster Design went to Group 5 [Food & Nutrition]. The announcement was made during the closing ceremony at Prince Hotel Kuala Lumpur on Saturday, 23rd August 2014.
Applause and kudos to all the delegates on their commendable efforts in completing their posters in such a relatively short period of time! The judges were extremely pleased and impressed with their stellar poster and presentation.
