UNMC co- organises training session for architect and building experts
The University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus (UNMC) and its partner, MES Asia, organised a 2-day course entitled ‘Building Information Modelling (BIM) Implementation’ on 3-4 May 2017 at UNMC’s Kuala Lumpur Teaching Centre. The course is supported by Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB), Department of Survey and Mapping Malaysia (DSMM), Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (IEM), Master Builders Association Malaysia (MBAM), PEJUTA, Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors (ICES), The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM). This programme was designed to enable the participants to have a thorough knowledge of the strategic and technical processes for BIM implementation to meet business objectives.
The training session was the result of MOU signed between UNMC and MES Asia on 20 March 2017 to deliver CPD training courses in the area of building information modelling, a 3D-model-based process of building which helps engineers and architects in the design and construction of the building and series of BIM.
Participants from various organisations such as The Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM), Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB), Master Builders Association Malaysia (MBAM), universities, consultancy companies and others attended the training sessions.
According to UNMC academician Wong Jing Ying: “This training has raised the awareness of BIM implementation in the construction industry. A basic understanding of BIM implementation and hands-on training session helps in the workspace”.
According to Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman academician Yip Chun Chieh: “As an educator from University Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) Sg Long Campus, this training is essential for the implementation of BIM as one of the core subjects (Integrated Design Project) in the Bachelor of Civil Engineering program. The core points of this training are understanding the implementation processes, importance of role players, communications barriers and standardised technical details. This valuable knowledge will equip students at university level and prepare them for the challenges of the construction industry.”
Last but not least, Ir Benedict Chan Wei Chiang from JPS Consulting Sdn. Bhd. added: “As a consultant, this workshop highlights the effective ways of implementing BIM and keeps me up to date with current BIM implementations in other countries, thanks to the vast experience of the speakers.”
