UNMC hosts a Technical Visit of Delegates from Myanmar
On 3 to 5 April 2017, The University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus (UNMC) hosted a technical visit for a group of delegates from Myanmar as a collaboration project with World Wildlife Fund (WWF), Myanmar. The delegates were high ranking officers from the Environmental Conservation Department, universities, industry owners and committee members of the Shwe Pyi Thar Industrial Zone.
The purpose of the technical visit was to gain on-site exposure of full-scale wastewater treatment plants, focusing on biogas and biological technology for wastewater treatment. The delegates chose UNMC as the host university as it has high-quality research in biogas and wastewater treatment technologies. Visits were made to the treatment facility at IOI Pan-Century Oleochemicals Sdn. Bhd., Pasir Gudang, Centre of Sustainable Palm Oil Research (CESPOR) facility located at Palong, and Heineken Malaysia Berhad at Petaling Jaya.

“Through this visit, we managed to understand the operation of a wastewater treatment system and are confident to adopt the system in our Shwe Pyi Thar Industrial Zone” said Mr Myo Thein, President of Shwe Pyi Thar Industrial Zone Committee.
Environmental Conservation Department delegate Ms Kyae Sin Htun said: “CESPOR has showcased well-established technologies in the industry. We are impressed with the collaboration between university and industry. I am sure, we should collaborate more together to improve the sustainability of my country.”
As a result of this technical visit, the delegates have invited UNMC to support the development of waste management system in Shwe Pyi Thar Industrial Zone, Myanmar.
