Voices 2: Can Malaysia Win Gold?

On 27 July 2017, the School of Media, Languages and Cultures (SMLC) hosted the second session of the Voices seminar for 2017 titled ‘Can Malaysia Win Gold?’ at the University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus (UNMC). Former badminton player Wong Choong Hann, runner and athletics coach S. Muthiah, the ‘Flying Doctor’ Tan Sri Dr. Jegathesan were the among the invited speakers that spoke about the challenges and prospects for Malaysian sports.

With the Southeast Asian Games under way in Kuala Lumpur this month, and as Malaysia comes off its most successful Olympics in 2016, audience members learned how Malaysia trains and prepares its athletes for the world stage. The speakers not only revealed their various insights of the Malaysian sports industry but also talked about their personal experience as ex-athletes and the general viability of a sports career in Malaysia.

Joining as co-hosts Gowri Krishnan and Keeshaanan Sundaresan from stadium.my, a website dedicated to all things sports in Malaysia and around the world. Furthermore, Fraser and Neave (F&N), a food and beverage company via their 100 Plus brand supplied the event with some cool refreshments for attendees.

The seminar was open to the public and was joined by academics as well as students, with a question and answer session with the audience. Many took the opportunity for a selfie at the end.
