Careers Fair 2016 Offers Students A Flying Start

The University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus (UNMC) Careers Fair was back once again this year, happening on the 16 and 17 March 2016. The 2-day fair was successfully held at The Great Hall in Trent Building, from 10 am until 4 pm. This annual on-campus job fair served as a platform for the students to network with the industry-specific employers and also, learn more about their career path and job opportunities.

1This year’s careers fair which attracted about 2600 students, featured about 46 exhibitors covering such industries as manufacturing; telecommunications; energy; tax, auditing and accounting; banking and finance; construction and property development; education; health care; and services.

The opening ceremony started with the exciting flash mob by the UNMC Dance Club as the dancers energetically performed which garnered attention from the crowd. It was then officiated by the Provost and CEO of UNMC, Professor Christine Ennew together with Director of Academic Services Patrick Joseph, Director of Student Experience Mavis Tsang, and Head of Careers Advisory Service (CAS) Alicia Ch’ng as they painted their hand palm with colourful inks and marked on the canvas following the theme of the event, “Paint Your Career”.3

The workshops provided ideal opportunities for the students to prepare themselves for the Careers Fair where they had the chance to engage with the employers and receive first-hand information from them. Overwhelmed responses received from the students for the workshops as they were enthusiastic to learn from the professionals and improve themselves for the better future.

“Careers Advisory Service had been conducted numerous events to help students in getting more opportunities especially through this careers fair. The employers were approachable as it was great to gain good insights during the workshops and apply the knowledge during the fair,” Christopher, a Mechanical Engineering student commented. CAS would like to thank everyone who involved in the execution of the event.
