Alumni Testimonial – Amirah Suhaila (2018)

Amirah Suhaila graduated with BSc (Hons) Pharmaceutical and Health Sciences in 2018. She is currently working as key account executive in a multinational corporation.

Why did you choose to study Pharmaceutical and Health Sciences (PHS) at University of Nottingham Malaysia (UNM)?

Because of the love towards Chemistry. Throughout high school, I have always loved everything about science especially Biology & Chemistry and started looking up for relevant courses from various universities and stumbled on the article on University of Nottingham School of Pharmacy was once of the top of its class. Then I further look up into the difference between MPharm and PHS, then further decided to pursue in PHS due to personal interest.

What is your experience of the programme?

It was tough but bearable, and I liked it. I think it’s the love towards the subject makes it bearable. Things were fascinating! The lecturers were all approachable and helpful too.

Which was your favourite module?

My favourite modules were Medicinal Chemistry & Pharmaceutical Microbiology! Well one of it was because Professor Wiart makes the learning fun, helps a lot in remembering the mechanism process. Professor Lim was also very helpful whenever understanding alignment is needed.

What did you love most about your student life?

I love the study-life balance that I had. Now as a working adult, we rarely find the life balance anymore ☹ the hard truth. Friends were one call away and we did fun things whenever we were stressed out.

Besides, I am achievement oriented so whenever final result came out every semester, that somehow gave the satisfaction. Basically the best part of studying ?.

What is your advice to prospective and current PHS students?

Always focus in class! Although now a bit hard since all the learning went through electronic, I hope the current students will find joy in learning because knowledge is what make you whole, in a way for sure.

How has your degree prepared you for your career?

Studying in UNM definitely helped me build my soft skills. It does strengthen my confidence to talk to people, working well in teams and critical thinking solutions whenever hiccups interface at work. The first class honours degree definitely secured me with the current job I am having.

What are your career goals/plans?

My career goal is to make double the wage I am earning right now in two years. I am planning to switch to another company to gain more experience in various Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) companies or multinational corporation (MNC) thus builds up my skillset further as an Key Account Manager. Oh I also have goals to pursue in Marketing haha.
