An update from Professor Deborah Hall, Vice Provost (Research and Knowledge Exchange)
C0VID-19: Support for postgraduate researchers and invitation to a virtual town hall
In this update, Professor Hall clarifies news of support for the University’s postgraduate research students whose studies have been affected by C0VID-19, and supervisors. She also invites UNM’s research community to a virtual town hall meeting that will enable us to consider together what the “new normal” might look like for our research in the post C0VID-19 world.
Virtual town hall meetings for researchers
What does a new normal for world-leading research look like?
In these unprecedented times, it is so important that we have the opportunity to come together to share ideas, ambitions, concerns, and to offer mutual support. To support our determination to stay connected Professor Hall will be hosting a virtual town hall meeting with a panel of colleagues from across the University. The panel will consist of Professor Sivakumar Manickam, Associate Dean of Research & Knowledge Exchange for the Faculty of Science & Engineering; Dr Seow Hsin-Vonn, Associate Dean of Research & Knowledge Exchange for the Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences; and Kylie Colvin, Director of Strategy and Acting Director of Recruitment & Marketing.
The town halls will take place via Microsoft Teams. One session will be for postgraduate researchers and their supervisors. Another session will be for the wider research community. Details about how to join these meetings are available on the sign up page.

Online lecture series
C0VID-19 Conversations
Dr Khoo Gaik Cheng and Dr Bridget Welsh from the University of Nottingham Asia Research Institute Malaysia (UoNARI-M) are hosting an online lecture series where they sit down with experts from the interdisciplinary network of UoNARI Malaysia to look at what are the broader effects of C0VID-19 on society, economy and governance. The series asks what will the ‘new normal’ post-C0VID-19 be like, and what needs to be done now to better understand the multi-faceted impact of C0VID-19.
